Last week during National Reconciliation Week at Lifestart, we took time out to meet together in an online forum facilitated by Judith Mckay Tempest our Aboriginal Strategy and Practice Manager. The Theme for National Reconciliation Week 2021 was More than a word. Reconciliation takes action, focused on urging the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action.

On the 2nd of June, Lifestart staff met virtually in the spirit of reconciliation. We talked about about the meaning of Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country, and how we can take action to acknowledge Aboriginal culture and Country.

Staff members who attended the forum said:

“Connecting with Aboriginal culture is about the relationships. It’s about connecting with Aboriginal community in a really meaningful way and meeting them where they are. Now is the time that we need to really respond… to really form connections rather than just a token.” (Kate)

“It’s a great opportunity to become more mindful, intentional and aware of the words we use and of what they mean to us as an individual but also as a community.” (Jessica)
