Supported Decision Making workshops
The Department of Family and Community Services (FACS), Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC) has engaged Carers NSW Inc. to deliver Supported Decision Making (SDM) workshops for 14-18 year olds with disability, their families and/or carers.
Carers NSW Inc. will partner with youth organisation Mirri Mirri in key metropolitan and regional locations across the 15 FACS Districts.
The workshops will focus on building the capacity of adolescents with disability to make supported decisions, providing a framework for building the capacity of families and carers to step away from substitute decision making, towards SDM’s more person centred approach. The project aims to prepare young people and their families/carers for the implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme by providing opportunities for them to develop skills, and participate more confidently in individualised funding arrangements.
